Skoda like SBS has become synonymous with cycle-sport, within Australia and around the world. They are a commercial partner and sponsor of the Tour de France, Giro, Tour of Spain and now the Tour Down Under. The Czech company began first making bicycles, and shortly after motorcycles in the late 1800s. Within the decade, their first automobile came off the line making Skoda one of the first car manufacturers.
In 1991 Skoda was purchased by the Volkswagen Group, and in 2007, the brand was re-introduced to Australia with three models, the Octavia, the funky Roomster and in 2009 the Superb. Skoda’s network of stand alone dealerships is growing at a remarkable rate, as the whisper of additional models on the horizon become clearer. Today Skoda stands for it’s quality of build, safety and technology, at an affordable price, making one of Europe’s most popular choices. I loved the thriftiness of the Octavia Scout diesel wagon from last year, however I’m now in the new Superb where the comfort and room just blows me away. I have a rack for 3 bikes on the roof for the interstate family trips and I’m now told there are new models to be introduced by the end of 2010.
